"I had nothing when I came here. Mend helped me provide for myself and my child. It's about more than my background... we're like a family and like a family we have our ups and downs, but its all good!" She is ready and capable to take the next step in her journey.
Last fall Dawn completed her stay at Heartline! Thankfully we didn't have to say good-bye. Shortly after Dawn began her new role with Mend as the Creative Supervisor. We are so grateful for the gift of this smart, creative woman!
This last summer Rita moved to Texas to be with her family. She leaves behind a big hole at our work table. Rita is detailed-oriented, full of life and humor and makes us all laugh. She holds fiercely to her recovery, recognizing her vulnerability to return to her old life. There's a song that seems to play every time we're working. We call it Rita's song because she loves a line in the chorus that says "ain't nobody gonna steal my joy." She chimes in "that's right!" We miss this joyful soul, but she was ready to leave the nest and FLY!
Teisha is a survivor of domestic abuse. Years of fearing for her life and trying to keep a low profile to appease her abuser has left her quiet and cautious. When a Mend Maker starts work for the first time, they can choose a piece of jewelry to keep. Teisha chose our Safe Place necklace, symbolic of what she has longed for and finally found.
